At the refinish stage, an auto body technician uses a spray gun to apply paint to a repaired fender mounted on the vehicle, working carefully across the panel while focused on the surface rather than the camera

Overview

A collision can cause dents, cracks, scratches, broken or misaligned panels, and other damage that may not always be obvious at first. Our technicians carefully inspect the vehicle to identify the areas that need attention and determine the appropriate repairs.

Depending on the damage, repairs may include body panel repair or replacement, bumper repair, paint and refinishing, and final reassembly. We take the time to assess the vehicle before beginning work so the repairs are properly planned and completed.

Symptoms

When to call

A panel is dented, creased, or pushed out of shape

A damaged door, fender, quarter panel, hood, or trunk lid may need its shape restored before the vehicle can be refinished or reassembled.

The bumper is cracked or no longer fits correctly

Cracks, splits, loose sections, and uneven gaps can indicate damage that needs attention rather than a simple surface cleanup.

Paint is scraped, chipped, or missing

Damage through the paint can leave the affected area exposed and may require preparation and refinishing as part of the body repair.

Body gaps look uneven after an impact

A door, hood, trunk, or bumper that sits unevenly can point to movement in the panel or its mounting areas after a collision.

Our process

How the job goes

  1. Inspect the collision damage

The vehicle is examined to identify visible damage and determine which panels, bumpers, finishes, or related areas need repair.

  2. Prepare the damaged areas

The affected parts are cleaned, removed, or prepared as needed so the auto body technicians can work on the damaged surface and reach the repair area.

  3. Repair panels and refinish surfaces

Dented or misshaped panels are repaired where possible, damaged plastic is addressed, and paint work is completed on the areas that require refinishing.

  4. Reassemble and review the repair

Repaired parts are put back in place, panel fit is checked, and the finished areas are reviewed for visible damage and proper alignment.

Scope

What the job includes

The work is quoted after the vehicle and its collision damage are inspected, because the repair scope depends on the affected parts and the condition of each area.

Collision Center questions

Answers before you book.

More questions on our full FAQ page.

What should I do after a collision?

If the vehicle can be driven safely, arrange an auto body inspection so the visible and less obvious damage can be reviewed. If it is not safe to drive, arrange transportation and have the vehicle inspected before deciding on the repair.

Can a dented panel be repaired?

That depends on the panel, the location and depth of the damage, and the condition of the surrounding area. An inspection determines whether the panel can be repaired or needs another approach.

Can a cracked bumper be repaired?

Some bumper damage can be repaired, while other damage may require a different repair approach. The condition and location of the crack are reviewed during the inspection.

Why does the vehicle need to be inspected before I get a quote?

The visible damage may not show the full repair scope. Inspecting the vehicle allows the auto body technicians to review the panels, bumpers, finishes, and fit before the work is quoted.
